With DCS, you can customize your mail letter template, print individual letters, or manage entire mailings.



First, you must flag the letter to print. You must print the letter between noon and four PM on weekdays. If you print a letter for a period of 60 days or longer, you will not see the message. Then, select "Other" and "Return Mail" as the reasons for the return. You can also filter the report by examining the MT Letter Status File's Comments field. The report also prompts you to enter the start and ending processing date and print device. An example of the MT Letter Print Report is provided in Appendix H.


Before 1840, printed letters cost the sender and recipient. The amount of money paid for a printed letter was based on distance and the number of sheets used. The penny postage system was created by Sir Rowland Hill and improved its efficiency by introducing prepayment and official pre-printed envelopes. The first person to use the Penny Black postage stamp was Hill. Then, in 1844, printing of magazines began to increase the efficiency of the postal system.
